Seaton Hackney Stables, a Morris County Parks Commission facility that is operated by Equishare LLC, has been a long-standing icon in Morristown. After a long hiatus and extensive renovations, Seaton Hackney Stables reopened in the Fall of 2006.

Now, one year later, we are please to invite you to support this amazing asset to our community.

The Friends of Seaton Hackney Stables (SHS) is a community-based project managed by Focus America, a NJ 501(c)3 Non-Profit Volunteer Organization. Our mission is to promote community awareness of the stables and its many programs, events, and services. Members do not have to be riders but simply appreciate the value of this facility to the community and our children who benefit greatly from learning how to care for and ride horses.

The Friends of SHS intends to raise money to provide financial assistance to capable riders through scholarships and awards as well as donate items needed to enhance the facility, support Seaton Hackney Schooling Shows, and underwrite children’s educational programs for local school-aged children.

Members will receive advance notification of events, have priority reservations, and discounted entrance fees for special events. Members will also enjoy discounts for pony rides and trail rides during off-peak times/days. In addition, special activities will be offered throughout the year to members of the Friends of SHS.

Charter Membership Dues

The charter membership rates will increase after January 1, 2008.

Charter members who sign up before then will not have to renew their rates until December 2008.

$25 for Individual Membership
$75 for Family Membership (includes children under the age of 18)

Checks should be made out to Focus America: FoSHS and mailed to PO Box 267, Convent Station NJ 07961.

Why Horses Are Important

If you study American History, you will recognize that horses helped develop our nation. While we no longer require the use of horses for transportation or field labor, we still gain enormous benefits from interacting with these majestic and regal creatures.

Riders learn responsibility and perseverance while developing confidence and self-esteem. In addition, the camaraderie among fellow riders creates an unique social lifestyle with the emphasis on physical activities and life-long skill development.

Goals for 2008

Participation in equine activities is a key builder of self-esteem for both our children and adult riders. As a county facility, Seaton Hackney Stables offers programs for all ages. However, not every member of our community can afford the cost of participation in equine recreation.

Therefore, the Friends of SHS is hoping to raise enough money through membership fees and participation at events to initially provide:

Traveling educational programs to local schools (public as well as private).
Scholarships to riders wishing to participate in the Schooling Shows held at Seaton Hackney Stables.
Scholarships to riders with financial needs who wish to participate in the 2008 Troop Program.
Scholarships to riders for the winter, spring, and summer camp programs.
Community events for the general public as well as member-only events
